Patsy Pro
B.S., Carlow College
Representative, PAISTA
I began my dream of earning a college
degree at the age of thirty-one, after being married
and having children. I started at Boyce Campus of Community
College of Allegheny County and attended there for
three years before transferring to Carlow College.
I earned a B.S. in mathematics, with a minor in computer
science and teaching certification.
I am in my 7th year at The Oakland
School, where I teach geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus,
and calculus. We have added a business math course to
our curriculum, which I really enjoy teaching. I also
teach prep classes for the SAT and PSAT.
Our small class size allows me to
teach my math classes to "discover" through experiments
and other "hands on" applications. For example, during
our study of circles and area, we buy pizzas and calculate
the area of the whole pizza and of each slice. We enjoy
the pizza for lunch.
I am married to Carl, and have a
son, Steven, and a daughter, Nicole. My son is married
and has given me two delightful granddaughters,
Elizabeth and Caroline, who
light up my life.
Prior to coming to the Oakland School,
I was the Director of the Sylvan Learning Center in
Edgewood. After returning to the classroom, I realized
just how much I had missed it. I love teaching and
am
so glad to be at the "O" School.
