The O School is a wonderful environment,
which embraces and encourages creativity. This makes
teaching studio art here an enjoyable job.
Students are told upfront that expectations
are high. I lay a ground work of basic rules for accomplishing
goals, but I also allow room for creativity. We work
hard, but also have fun. We engage a variety of activities:
drawing, painting, sculpture, assemblage art. I think
it is very important for my students to use their imaginations
and not to fear creativity.
As a little side noteMy students
at the school have embraced many little friends
in my art room. This all began with my very first field
trip to the zoo where I purchased a stuffed monkey.
That was 8 years ago. Now my collection has over 75--most
of which have been gifts from students.
