Evan Flaherty Chosen for Mayor's
Youth Council
Evan
Flaherty has been appointed by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl
to represent the Oakland School on the Mayor's Youth
Council. The council is comprised of 2 representatives
from each public high school located in the City of
Pittsburgh and 1 from each parochial and private high
school. 15 at-large young persons also serve on the
council.
All council members are
selected through an open application process based upon
proven leadership, community involvement and recommendations
from the schools.
The Youth Council is an
advisory body on matters concerning the needs of youth
from the perspective of youth. The council is authorized
to make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council
on policy matters affecting Pittsburgh youth.
Evan reports he has attended
several council meetings and progress is being made
and that he has had a feeling of inclusion. Evan will
present a report to the student body in the fall.
Evan is a rising Ninth
Grader and is the son of Mark and Paula Flaherty.The
family resides in the Highland Park neighborhood of
Pittsburgh.
