School Closings for Inclement Weather

The Oakland School does not delay the start of school. We are either open or we are closed.

Closing announcements are aired over local television and radio stations, specifically KDKA, WTAE, and WPXI. The decision to close school is made as early as possible before 6:00a.m. Students will be notified by phone if school is closed.

If a student is bused by the home school district and that district has announced a one or two-hour delay, then the student should follow the delayed schedule and arrive to school later in the morning.

Those who use public transportation or arrive by private cars are expected for the start of school at 8:30a.m. Naturally, timely arrival may be inhibited by bad weather in some areas but not in others. In such cases, each family must use its own best judgment.

Decisions to close school are based on the safety of our school community who travel to school from some distances: Butler County to McKeesport, Mt. Lebanon to Wexford, Beaver County to Greensburg.
