French Classes visit La Gourmandine
Students prepared for this visit by
learning about different French pastries and breads,
and learning about ingredients and the process for making
bread.
The visiting students were shown how
bread (baguettes) is made in larger quantities and the
steps that the dough goes through, including going into
a proofing room, rolling mill, and the oven. They observed
the delicate procss of making and decorating pastries,
including the 'Fraisier' cakes and mini tartelettes.
All of the demonstrations were in
French.
Students also learned about the employees--where
they were from, what their work day is like, and the
business choices the owners have made and their future
plans for La Gourmandine. The students asked several
specific questions in French (only 1 or 2 in English),
and participated with the employees during the bread-making
process.
La Gourmandine Bakery and
Pastry Shop is located at 4605 Butler Street in Lawrenceville.
Our thanks to Fabien Moreau and Lisanne Moreau,
owners, for their generous contribution of
time and attention to our students.
