The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's
GATE apprenticeship program consists of a half-day or
daylong learning experience per month over a six or
seven month period during the school year. Students
meet and work with professionals who share their experience,
expertise, enthusiasm and zeal for what they do for
a living. The program provides for hands-on, behind-the-scenes
experiences and gives students the opportunities to
make connections with organizations and people who can
help them as they pursue their career choices. These
Oschool students were awarded their apprenticeships
based on their application essays and recommendations
from their mentors:
Yemi Olaiya
will participate in the International Affairs apprenticeship
at Carnegie Mellon University.
John Kozar
will attend his apprenticeship in Nursing at
Presbyterian Hospital.
Joe Schevtchuk
will attend a Visual Arts apprenticeship at
Contemporary Crafts where he will focus on goldsmithing.
Gabe Gurwin
will attend his Journalism Careers
apprenticeship at Point Park University.
Erin Groll
will attend a Playwriting apprenticeship at
the Pittsburgh Public Theater.
Susannah Waxman
will attend her Architecture apprenticeship
at various city locations.
Koby Kubrin
will attend his Engineering apprenticeship
at various city locations.
