Students Awarded 2011-2012 Apprenticeships

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit's GATE apprenticeship program consists of a half-day or daylong learning experience per month over a six or seven month period during the school year. Students meet and work with professionals who share their experience, expertise, enthusiasm and zeal for what they do for a living. The program provides for hands-on, behind-the-scenes experiences and gives students the opportunities to make connections with organizations and people who can help them as they pursue their career choices. These Oschool students were awarded their apprenticeships based on their application essays and recommendations from their mentors:

Yemi Olaiya will participate in the International Affairs apprenticeship at Carnegie Mellon University.

John Kozar will attend his apprenticeship in Nursing at Presbyterian Hospital.

Joe Schevtchuk will attend a Visual Arts apprenticeship at Contemporary Crafts where he will focus on goldsmithing.

Gabe Gurwin will attend his Journalism Careers apprenticeship at Point Park University.

Erin Groll will attend a Playwriting apprenticeship at the Pittsburgh Public Theater.

Susannah Waxman will attend her Architecture apprenticeship at various city locations.

Koby Kubrin will attend his Engineering apprenticeship at various city locations.
