Tour-Ed Mine Field Trip

On Friday, September 2, we took a field trip to Tarentum, Pa. to visit the Tour-Ed Mine where we traveled 1/2 mile underground and experienced first-hand what it's like to work in a coal mine. We saw all of the equipment used and how the digging for coal has changed over the years. Our gracious hosts, all experienced coal miners. explained the history and the art of mining with stories and demonstations. We enjoyed a picnic lunch at the mine site before returning home.
