Meadowcroft Field Trip
An all school field trip to the Meadowcroft
Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life let us stand where
some of the very first Americans stood! Students caught
a glimpse of why prehistoric Indians camped at the Rockshelter
and what they ate as they huddled around their fires
16,000 years ago. In adddition to touring the Rockshelter
archeological site, students participated in an educational
program that emphasized native tools and technology
and how the Indians used their plant and animal resources
to provide their daily needs.
Meadowcroft is an hour's drive from
Pittsburgh in Avella, Pa near the Ohio border. Meadowcroft
is closed during winter months.
