Our Third Decade
Founded in 1982
Community:
The Oakland School is a non-profit, co-educational
high school, located in the Oakland neighborhood of
Pittsburgh. The school draws students from Allegheny,
Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
Accreditation:
The Oakland School is accredited by the Accrediting
Commission of the United Private Academic Schools Association
of Pennsylvania.
Enrollment:
up to 70 students in all secondary grades.
Student Range:
Gifted to the average, as well as those who have
special needs.
Class Size:
There is a 6:1 student-teacher ratio and the
average class size is 6.
Programs:
The academic program offers a curriculum in communications,
mathematics, arts, humanities, science, social studies,
foreign languages and computer education.
Extra-curricular activities provide
participation in writing workshop, play production,
Utopia magazine, student council, chess, yearbook, social
activities, and others.
Gifted Programs are available to challenge
the highly motivated learner.
Community
Service: All students must perform community
service to fulfill graduation requirements.
Staff:
The school is directed by a teacher-administration
team. Certified professional teachers provide
the educational
leadership and instruction for the student body. An
experienced counselor aids students in scholastic
development
and other needs, including applications to the college
of choice.
